Eligibility & Educational Qualifications

Candidates must possess a valid GATE Score Card (2024, 2025, or 2026) in the relevant paper code (CS / EC / DA).

Academic Requirements:

B.E / B.Tech: In the respective branch of engineering.
Post Graduation: M.Sc / MCA / M.E / M.Tech / M.Phil in relevant fields.
Certifications: DOEACC B-Level or AMIE/GIETE certification holders are also eligible.

Age Limit & Relaxations (As of 31-03-2026)

General / EWS: Maximum 30 Years.
OBC (NCL): Maximum 33 Years.
SC / ST: Maximum 35 Years.
PwBD: 10 to 15 Years relaxation as per category.
Service Candidates: Up to 5 years additional relaxation.

Salary & Benefits

The Scientist-B post follows the 7th Pay Commission Pay Matrix Level 10.

Starting Basic Pay: Rs. 56,100 per month.
Maximum Pay Scale: Up to Rs. 1,77,500.

Selection Process

The selection process for NIC Scientist-B involves two main stages:

Stage 1 - Shortlisting: Candidates are shortlisted discipline-wise based on their best GATE 2024/2025/2026 score in a 1:5 ratio.
Stage 2 - Personal Interaction: Shortlisted candidates will be called for a Personal Interview. There is no separate written exam conducted by NIC for this drive.
